We are seeking a skilled and experienced Civils Remedials Operative or gang with a specialized focus on Section 38 and 278 works. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality remedial solutions within the civil engineering sector, with a particular emphasis on Section 38 and 278 projects. This role demands a strong understanding of local authority regulations, construction standards, and the ability to work efficiently within specified guidelines.

Working in and around the northeast but not limited to.

Key Responsibilities:

Section 38 and 278 Expertise:

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and experience in executing Section 38 (Adoption of Highways) and Section 278 (Works affecting the Highway) projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local authority standards and regulations related to Section 38 and 278 works.

Remedial Construction:

  • Execute remedial works in accordance with project specifications, ensuring quality standards and timelines are met.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective remedial solutions.

Site Preparation and Maintenance:

  • Undertake site preparation activities, including excavation, grading, and other groundwork as necessary for Section 38 and 278 projects.
  • Implement effective site maintenance practices to ensure a safe and organized work environment.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate a variety of construction equipment, such as excavators, backhoes, and compaction equipment, ensuring proper usage and maintenance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and industry best practices during equipment operation.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs, progress reports, and any relevant documentation related to Section 38 and 278 projects.
  • Provide timely and detailed reports to project management on the status of ongoing works.

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure that remedial works meet specified standards and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement corrective measures as needed to address any deviations from project specifications.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in civil engineering with a focus on Section 38 and 278 works.
  • Relevant certifications in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with local authority regulations and standards.
  • Proficient in operating a range of construction equipment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

About the Role

The role will provide assistance in the Surfacing Team’s expansion of the North East while collaboratively working alongside our civils division.

Therefore, previous experience in a similar role is essential.

Our in-house surfacing and cold milling teams, along with our civils department, and many in house facilities will support this position.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the day-to-day monitoring of operations on small to large-scale projects, covering all aspects of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality. This includes supervising operatives, completing relevant site paperwork, and managing labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors.

The goal is to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

The role is primarily based in the North East, but you may be required to work on any site within the UK, so a full driving licence is essential.

Must have previous surfacing experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preplanning and programming of the works
  • Arranging pre-site inspections and measurements with local authorities and relevant parties applicable to the works to ensure all works are to specification
  • Arranging labour, plant, and materials for work activities
  • Conducting site briefings
  • Supervising operatives, ensuring processes and management systems are fully communicated and adhered to
  • Monitoring daily performance on site off in house labour & subcontractors
  • Reviewing project performance – both financially and operationally to learn from outcomes
  • Support the identification and management of any financial or contractual risks. Maximising financial returns on all projects and by ensuring all processes to gather the information required by the Commercial Team are followed
  • Ensuring correct documentation is held on site
  • Ensuring works are completed on time and to specification
  • Aiding the early identification and notification of contract variances
  • Ensuring works are carried out in line with agreed methods and methodologies

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous surfacing experience, either as a Manager or Supervisor – advanced knowledge of surfacing materials, laying practices, and standards
  • HNC Qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Proactive and positive promotion of Health & Safety at all times
  • Team player, fostering a working environment that encourages teamwork
  • Excellent organisation, communication, IT, and time management skills
  • Ability to empathise and communicate with people
  • Ability to manage workload and seek help and guidance when required
  • Hands-on, enthusiastic, and invested in the company’s long-term success

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Relevant qualifications for the position applied for
  • Essential: CSCS card
  • Advantageous: Additional certifications such as SSSTS/SMSTS, First Aid at Work, and Streetworks

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Tarmac Tipper Driver / Labourer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our road surfacing and civil engineering projects, particularly focused on transporting materials and assisting with on-site labour tasks. This role demands a strong understanding of tarmac operations, construction standards, and the ability to work efficiently within specified guidelines.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Safely operate a tipper truck to transport tarmac and other materials to and from job sites.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of materials.
  • Perform general labour tasks, including site preparation, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Follow all safety regulations and protocols.
  • Assist the team with various tasks required to achieve projects to a high standard.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance checks on the tipper truck.
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports related to deliveries and work performed.

Work Location:

  • Primarily in and around the North East, but not limited to this region.

  • Valid driving license with a good driving record.
  • Familiarity with tarmac operations and construction standards.

  • A Full LGV C+E (Class 1 Licence)
  • Previous experience of driving Class 2 if a new Class 1 pass
